Werner Geven - Eventing and Dressage

 

Poplar Place September HT -

Werner and Aber-ka-Dabra obtained another qualifying score at Intermediate this weekend, adding just a few time penalties and rails to their dressage score of 45.2.
Haley Hughes rode her Tommy Two to a second place finish in the CIC*, and Samantha Bielawski with Tiramisu finished 3rd in Preliminary Rider, boasting the only double clear cross country round of that division! They were followed by Carolyn Cadier and Absolute-Lee, who ended in 9th in Preliminary Rider as well. Zeb Fry and Beecher's Brook had a lovely weekend, finishing 4th in the Novice Horse, followed by Mary Kate Mallory and Never Outfoxed, who finished 5th, and Billy Jackson on Cambridge, who finished 10th in that same division. Carmen Schatte and her experienced partner Bear came in 3rd in the Open Novice, followed again by Mary Kate riding Rooster Road to a 6th place finish. Finally, Lily Barlow rode Lily's Filly to a respectable 8th place in the Junior Beginner Novice division.

 

Poplar Place June HT -

Werner had the pleasure of taking 3 lovely catch rides around the course at Poplar with 2 in the Preliminary division and 1 in the Novice division. He rode Debbie Crowley's Master Manipulater to a 3rd place finish in the very competitivie OP. He also took Debbie's Vandiver around his first preliminary level course to a respectable 8th place finish. Finally, he rode Zeb Fry's Beechers Brook in his first ever horse trial, finishing 2nd in the Open Novice!
Werner's students had a good weekend as well, Samantha Bielawski and Tiramisu finished 12th in the OP, and Carolyn Cadier rode Absolut-lee to a 19th place finish in that same division.Christine Gustafson and Highly Explosive won the P/T division, and we were all very please to have Libby Head competing again, this time at the Training level with both Sir Rockstar and Sambucca, who finished 5th and 18th respectively. Thomas Cadier and Only To You finished 8th in that same division.

 

Spring Season Recap -

Goodbye Haley Hughes and Tommy Too! She was a wonderful working student at Poplar Place Farm for almost 2yrs. We wish her all the best at her new college and we will miss her a lot and Tommy Too!!!

Poplar Place Farm April Dressage Show was another successful event for Poplar Place Farm trainers and students! Resident trainer Marjolein Geven and her horse Moonlight earned their last freestyle score of 66% to earn their USDF Gold Freestyle Bar. Marjolein is one of the few in the USA who now has earned all her USDF Medals in Dressage. This is the USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal and the USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Freestyle Bar. Congratulations Marjolein and Moonlight!
Congratulations also to:
Blair Bowers and Ico, owned by Janie Pride, with their 60% at GP. One more score for their USDF Gold Medal!
Cardy Burdette and Pesoa on winning both their I1 classes with 65% and 63%
Cardy Burdette and Vincent with winning one of their PSG classes.
Fred Burdette and Patino earning 60% and 65% at Training Level
Caroline Knight and Carlos with three First places at First Level Jr/Yr with all scores close to 70%.
Marjolein Geven and Wivita on winning one of their 2nd level classes and qualifying for the championships at 2nd level.
Marjolein Geven and Wynsome Heart( owned by Liz Hunter) on all scores above 65% at Training Level
Werner Geven and Bailey (owned by Liz Hunter)on winning one of their 1st level classes with 70.333%.


Poplar Place Farm May Dressage Show was also a very successful show. Congratulations Marjolein Geven and Wynsome Heart, owned by Liz Hunter, on winning the High Score with 78.929% and qualifying for the championships at Training Level.

Poplar Place Farm May Horse Trials

Werner rode Donna Stegman's Aber-Ka-Dabra to a successful finish in his Intermediate level debut. He also competed Libby Head's Sambucca and Sir Rockstar, who finished 5th and 8th respectively in the Open Preliminary division. Wivita, also owned by Donna Stegman, proved her versatility by finishing 4th in the Open Training division with Werner, following last weekends dressage show in which she scored above 60% at Second and Third level with Marjolein.
Haley Hughes and Tommy Two had a great show as well, finishing 9th in the Open Prelim and boasting a double clear stadium round. Caroline Cadier and Absolute-Lee came in 10th in the Prelim Rider division, closely followed by Samantha Bielawski and Taramisu who ended in 11th, and Ashley Stiles rode her Easy Flight to a 14th place finish in that division as well. Jennifer Davis and Cor de Chasse finished 5th close behind Werner in the Open Training division, and Thomas Cadier rode Only To You to a 4th place finish in Training Rider A. Victoria Clayton and Daddy's Empty Pockets skipped around the Novice course to a 6th place finish, as did Maggie Backer and Rocking Royal Sierra, who finished 12th in the same division, and Zeb Fry took More Cowbell to a 8th place finish in Open Novice.

 

Greater Atlanta Dressage Southern

Poplar Place Farm riders had a great weekend at Conyers. This was our first outing in a long time and the first one for most of our horses and little Tessa. Not only was everyone very successful, we also had a great time.
Thank yous to Cardy and Fred for the great cook outs, Donna and Alex Gafford for coming down to support us, Casper for watching Tessa, and last but not least Mary Kate for being our assistant/groom that weekend. We went home with about 10 first place ribbons! Congratulations to everyone. Here are some of our results:

Fred Burdette and Patino competing at their first dressage show and scoring 3x 60% and higher at Training Level.

Cardy Burdette and Vincent on their first Prix St. George and scoring a 64% on Sunday.
Cardy Burdette and Pesoa scoring 63% in the I1 on Sunday.

Caroline Knight and Carlos competing at their first dressage show and scoring 66% and 70% at 1st level.

Marjolein Geven and Wivita scoring 66% and 70% at 2nd Level.

Werner Geven and Wynsome Heart, owned by Liz Hunter, and scoring twice 65% at 1st level.
and last but not least,
Werner Geven and Bailey, also owned by Liz Hunter, scoring 75% and a 78.5% at 1st level! He was high score of the show.

 

Poplar Place February Horse Trials

Congratulations to Werner on his win in the Open Intermediate division riding Tommy Two owned by Haley Hughes!
Mary Kate Mallory took 4th Place in the OI division riding Kilaughton.
Werner also took home a blue ribbon in the Open Preliminary/Training division on Wivita (at only her 2nd outing at this level!).
Christine Gustafson finished 4th on Highly Explosive in this division as well.
Victoria Clayton came in 4th in the Jr. Novice division.
Fred and Cardy Burdette's Vilas County had a successful first horse trial finishing 4th in Open Novice with Werner in the tack.
Maggie Baker came in 2nd in the Jr Beginner Novice on Plaudits KC Cruiser!
